"Matt joins to talk about Bittensor – an open-source protocol that powers a scalable, globally-distributed, decentralized neural network. The system is designed to incentivize the production of artificial intelligence by training models within a blockchain infrastructure and rewarding insight gained through data with a custom digital currency, Tao. Our aim is to create a pure market for machine intelligence."

How come Matt got the name of the coin wrong? "Tau" instead of "Tao"?

This is super interesting to see how Machine Learning combines AI and Crypto bringing many new opportunities to people. This is very new and to be honest a little out there or me to get a complete grasp of the concept. The whole video could have ended with perhaps a more straightforward explanation of what it aims towards and what this combination will look like in a tangible form. Some new examples o what the future could look like and how it would benefit those who are interested in bitcoin tech would have been awesome.

There was someone who commented on the video in live chat "Will Bittensor be paying attention to whether or not TAU will be considered a security?" So I did some research and came across SEC regulations under which "If somebody is raising money selling a token and the buyer is anticipating profits based on the efforts of that group to sponsor the seller, that fits into something that's a security" ("SEC chair Gary Gensler on his vision for cryptocurrency regulation" Aug. 4, 2021). Keeping in view the whitepaper of the XTO roadmap where IAO would be used as a token, it would depend on the usage of XTO in the upcoming ventures.

Considering the roadmap of Bittensor for the next year or so it seems it will not be considered a security. It will be taken as only a token until and unless they are able to achieve their goal of being a state-of-the-art network. I don't think the company is offering shares at the moment and as seen they are only using XTO as tokens for now since it is not available on any exchanges as of now.
